Health and Society

Independent Winegrowers, ideally positioned to engage with consumers, demonstrate unwavering commitment to transparency, consumer information, and responsible consumption.

Transparency and information to consumers

Since 8 December 2023, wine has become the first product in Europe to provide mandatory nutritional information in a dematerialised format. This initiative highlights the forward-thinking approach of Independent Winegrowers, who strive to meet consumer expectations for transparency. Through digital labelling, consumers can now easily access information about the ingredients and nutritional values of the wines they purchase via QR codes or dedicated applications.
This innovative approach allows for:

  • Improved Transparency: Consumers are better informed about the composition of their wines, thereby enhancing trust in European wine products.
  • Easier Access to Information: Digital labelling offers a convenient and accessible way to verify information without overloading the physical labels on bottles, allowing the preservation of traditional wine packaging.
  • Meeting Consumer Expectations: By adopting technological solutions, Independent Winegrowers demonstrate their ability to evolve with consumption trends and promote informed consumption practices.

Promotion of responsible drinking

Independent Winegrowers do not just produce and sell wine; they are also ambassadors of responsible consumption. Being in direct contact with their customers, they are ideally positioned to convey messages about good consumption practices and the benefits of moderate consumption. CEVI fully supports the objectives of combating excessive and harmful alcohol consumption and emphasises the importance of education over excessive restrictions. CEVI actively promotes:

  • Education on Moderation: Raising consumer awareness about the effects of excessive consumption and promoting moderation as an integral part of wine culture.
  • Producer Engagement: Independent Winegrowers can offer personalised and educational advice during direct sales, sharing their expertise and passion for wine.
  • Defending Moderate Consumption: While supporting public health campaigns against abuse, CEVI highlights that wine, when consumed in moderation, can be a healthy component of a balanced lifestyle and should not be subjected to disproportionate restrictive measures.

The commitment of Independent Winegrowers to transparency and responsible consumption reflects their desire to contribute positively to society. Through digital labelling and consumer education, they demonstrate their ability to innovate and adapt to new societal expectations while defending moderation and responsibility as pillars of wine culture. CEVI will continue to support these initiatives and advocate for a balanced and pragmatic approach in public health policies and wine regulations.
